How our game almost violated international law.
Scaling Up Industries » Devlog
Hello,
This is Matthew, I run Raccoon Formality and was the "Engine Wrangler" on this project. Today, I would like to tell you a harrowing tale about how our game almost violated the Geneva Conventions, a set of international humanitarian laws.
Have you ever seen this symbol before?
Now, many of you might not know that this symbol isn't just free to use for anyone, but this symbol is actually protected under the Geneva Conventions as a humanitarian symbol. You are not allowed to use this symbol under any context other than what it is officially sanctioned for.
And before you ask, yes, this has held up in court before. Here are some examples:
So, you might be asking yourself "So, how does this relate to your game? Your game doesn't have a red cross in it." and you'd be correct in that. The red cross logo isn't in our game.
At least, not anymore...
Yeah, that's right, for a while during development our game was in violation of international law and we were completely oblivious to it. It wasn't until I saw this YouTube Short where I was reminded of this crazy legal anomaly and told Billy about it, who subsequently replaced them which these rad and thematically appropriate textures:
So yeah, that's how our game almost violated international law, hopefully the lesson you can take away from this is that you should also not violate the law unless it's for a funny reason.
(Raccoon Formality does not promote violation of the law.)
Thank you and have a great rest of your day.

If you can add our logo to the game, we guarantee that you will not violate international law
Dodged a similar bullet when making an fps jam a while back, but i got less creative and went with the blue cross approach.
Really cool to make a post about the issue though :) so that people can avoid the trouble.
war criminal raccoon
The funnest fact tbh. I love telling people they're breaking Geneva convention.
